Adam Wright: Steven Taylor who is an Archery Coach in the UK was putting together a team of young games makers for the archery event to carry arrows from the targets back to the archers. Steven Taylor then contacted the Isle of Man Archery Club and asked if they had anyone between ages 16 and 18 who would be able to go to London and Peter and Joy at the archery club asked me if I wanted to do it and I said I could so they put my name down and I was chosen to take part in the Olympics.

IOM Stamps: What was the experience like?

Adam Wright: The experience was very good to see all of the world class archers and the sort of equipment they used and a stadium full of people all very excited about watching the shooting.

IOM Stamps: How did it feel to be part of the event?

Adam Wright: It was exciting to be part of such a massive event and it was an experience that I will never forget as I was very proud to take part.

Adam Wright: The thing that I enjoyed the most was getting to see the archers shoot and being part of the atmosphere in Lord’s

Mark Cavendish At The London 2012 Olympic Games

Although we share Mark’s disappointment with the events of Saturday we are all still 100% proud of him and the efforts of Team GB. We will be supporting Mark for the rest of the season and beyond and also looking out for fellow Manx rider Peter Kennaugh in this week’s Team Pursuit event.
We are thrilled that the tiny Isle of Man has 2 World Champions competing in this great global event. You need to have character to compete at the highest level and Mark and Peter have proved that they have what it takes.
Well done and good luck to Mark and Peter from everyone at the Isle of Man Stamps & Coins.

Miniature sheet celebrates Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant

Diamond Jubilee Thames Pageant Miniature Sheet

The Thames will be brought alive this weekend with clanging bells, tooting horns and piercing whistles and recalling both its Royal heritage and its heyday as a working river. When the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant takes place, it will showcase one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the Thames and the biggest collection of historic vessels.

As crowds of Londoners and tourists will line the route to catch a glimpse of the Queen, they will see more than 1,000 vessels including Dunkirk little ships, Dragon boats, Narrow boats, steam boats and tugs, towing boats, kayaks and canoes from all corners of the Commonwealth. Among them will be two Manx vessels; a lifeboat from the historic Lady of Mann ship (the last vessel present at Dunkirk to survive), now converted as a cabin cruiser and Vital Spark – one of four replica Viking longboats built to be used in the annual world championship Viking longboat races, held in Peel, Isle of Man. Both vessels have significant stories behind them and will play their part in one of the biggest occasions the UK will see this year. At the centre of the pageant will be the Royal Barge, the Spirit of Chartwell, decorated in red and gold and carrying the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, who is now Lord High Admiral in the Royal Navy.

The armed forces, fire, police and rescue services will be represented and passenger boats, carrying up to 30,000 flag-waving members of the public will take part in the floating celebrations of the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

This magnificent miniature sheet, approved by the Queen, will capture the essence of the day’s atmosphere and better still, as a licensed product, a percentage of the sale of every miniature sheet will go to the Thames Diamond Jubilee Foundation, the charitable trust set-up to raise funds for charitable projects through The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

The Island Meets The City

Island Meets The City

The Island Meets City - L to R Dot Tilbury, Chief Minister Allan Bell, Lord Mayor Alderman David Wootton and Geoff Corkish MHK.

During his recent visit to the Island, to promote good relations between the Isle of Man and the City of London, Lord Mayor Alderman David Wootton met with IOM Stamps & Coins Manager Dot Tilbury, Chief Minister Alan Bell and Geoff Corkish MHK (Chairman of the IOM Post Office).
The Lord Mayor believed the partnership between the Isle of Man and the City would be crucial in helping to create wealth and economic well-being. For the UK and the City he shared Chief Minister Allan Bell’s vision for the Isle of Man of maintaining a prosperous and caring society based on fairness, opportunity for all, social cohesion and quality of life.

‘We are both small in size – but punch well above our weight in the global economy. We can be justly proud of the standards and governance we demand. And we are also well placed and well able to meet the challenges of the future – and play our part in creating jobs and growth.’

We, at IOM Stamps & Coins, feel that we “punch well above our weight” in the global stamp world and were pleased to present Alderman Wootton with a framed collection of our London 2012 Olympic Games stamps designed by Sir Paul Smith. He received the collection enthusiastically, praising their high quality of design and print and his belief that they stood a very good chance of being the best Olympic product of the year!
